Herringbone Drop Shoulder Longline Coat

Some coats are a layer and some are the whole outfit. This one is the second kind. Alverra ran it in a deep herringbone with enough weight in the cloth to hang properly rather than flutter, and cut it long enough to fall to mid-calf, so it fills the frame on a cold walk into town and holds its line standing still on a platform.

The lapel is wide and the front fastens double breasted, which is what gives the chest its structure. Behind, a self-tie belt draws the back in so the length never turns into a tent. Drop shoulders keep the sleeve soft rather than tailored, welt pockets sit at the hip, and the coat is lined throughout so it slides on over a blazer or a chunky knit without pulling anywhere.

Sizes run S to 2XL, cut loose and oversized through the body and sleeves. Take your usual size for the roomy fit the coat is drawn for, or size down if you want it closer to the body; our model is 5'8" and wears the size S. It machine washes cold, or take it to a dry cleaner if you would rather protect the herringbone weave.
